Review: BS Atelier Alex

BS Atelier is known for their whimsically-designed sex toys. From striped dildos that resemble socks to paint-splattered toys, there’s a lot of variety to choose from. One of their more popular themes, fitting for the month of June, are their pride toys. I set my eye on the rainbow blue BS Atelier Alex, and simply couldn’t pass it up.

Alex’s Appearance

The BS Atelier Alex is a gorgeous color. It’s arguably more “seafoam green” than blue, but I’m digging it. A rainbow design is wrapped around the shaft of this toy, making it cry out to my poor gay heart. Who can say they don’t have a weakness for rainbow sex toys–I mean really? Alex comes in alternative colors including a grey rainbow, purple and pink rainbow, and two paint-splatter colors (grey and blue) if you’re not loving the rainbow design.

Although simple in shape, with a slightly curved shaft and realistically shaped head, the true appeal for this toy was definitely Alex’s beautiful color and design. However, that may have distracted me from its admittedly unimpressive size and shape.

Size

I don’t consider myself a size queen, but I do enjoy a challenge at times. That being said, Alex is not a challenging toy by any means. In fact, I would primarily recommend Alex to those who are just starting out with vaginal or anal penetration, and don’t want a toy that will be too difficult to use or otherwise intimidating.

Length: 6.3”
Width: 1.4”

The product page classifies the BS Atelier Alex as a “medium” toy. While I could not find a small version of Alex available on SheVibe’s website, it makes me wonder what dimensions it would be. I would absolutely classify Alex as a small, beginner-friendly dildo.

The size was actually a big issue for me in testing this toy because I would constantly find myself starting off with Alex, only to need to move on to a larger toy. I got frustrated trying to get off by using Alex vaginally. Eventually, I moved on to declare Alex a decent-sized anal toy for my preferences. Its flared base makes it a safe toy to use anally and the curve is a good feature for p-spotting if you happen to have a prostate. Even without a prostate, I found more pleasure by using Alex anally, where it was a bit more challenging, than vaginally where it simply wasn’t fulfilling for me.

The average size for most silicone dildos hovers around the 1.5” diameter, which Alex falls just short of. This leads me to believe that the majority of people who stick to that size (or just under) may enjoy Alex vaginally a lot more than I did. I have gone up to closer to the 1.75” mark for my standard everyday toys, so while I am not a size queen, my body is accustomed to slightly larger than average silicone toys. I would suggest comparing Alex’s size to any toys you already own to determine if its size would be an issue for you, or if it’s just right.

Material & Cleaning

The BS Atelier Alex is made of 100% body-safe silicone, so there aren’t any safety concerns with the material. Silicone is one of the safest options for internal toys and is easy to clean and take care of. Alex is no exception to that, especially considering its smooth, texture-free shaft, and subtle head shape.

Clean Alex in between solo uses with antibacterial soap and warm water and let air dry. If you switch from anal to vaginal use, I would advise you to use a condom or sanitize it using one of the following methods:

  • Boil in a pot of water for ten minutes.
  • Run a detergent-free dishwasher cycle on “sanitize” with Alex on the top shelf.
  • Soak in a 10% bleach solution, then wash by hand with soap and water.

I recommend air-drying Alex before storing. Keep it somewhere away from pet hair and dirt, such as a toy box or drawer, as the silicone material does pick up debris. If you have a home entirely covered in pet hair (such as my own), a good rinse in the sink is recommended before each use as well.

Final Thoughts

The BS Atelier Alex is such a nice, simple design that I would highly recommend it to a new user of vaginal or anal toys. However, for someone with a large collection of toys such as myself, Alex may come off as a bit basic and, unfortunately, boring. Although I have no negative thoughts about the toy from a newbie’s perspective, I did feel a bit short-changed using Alex vaginally. Paired with a water-based lube and a harness, Alex would also be excellent for pegging a beginner. There is a lot of good use with Alex, especially for those starting out–just don’t expect him to be the most mind-blowing toy you’re ever going to own.
